Notes:

I planted two clown hibiscus by digging stalks from another plant. They are in full sun, near an huge oak stump, in 6 inches black soil on top of clay. Last year they were huge with tons of blooms. This year the stalks are splayed out, wilting and dying before the blooms open. Is this root rot? I dug up some daffodils nearby and some were wet and mushy. How can I fix this?
