Planting Where an Opossum has Died

Q: I have an area in my backyard that I planed on putting in a garden but a opossum died on that same spot.

When I went to remove it, it had already started to decompose. My question to you is, is this area safe to plant crops on like watermelon, lettuce, and some root crops?

A: Yes – I think you can plant there….. as long as you thoroughly stir the soil area under the possum carcass into the surrounding soil.

That’s how Nature makes manure safe.

But if you want to be absolutely safe, just scoop up the soil you feel is contaminated and pitch it under a nearby shrub. Then wash anything you
harvest.
