How to Get Free Compost

DeKalb County Public Works collects landscape debris and composts it. The compost is piled at four sites in the county.

The biggest pile is near the Central Transfer Station, across the street from the county jail complex at Memorial Drive and I-285.

Despite the words on the website, all but the Central transfer station are open to citizens at the hours specified. You MUST be a DeKalb citizen to load compost.

Cobb county once offered free BioBlend compost at their Cheatham Landfill facility. (I believe this program ended in early 2009.

Keep North Fulton Beautiful provides free mulch and chips at the Sandy Springs Recycling Center, 470 Morgan Falls Road, Sandy Springs, GA  30350.

Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful no longer offers free chips.
