This is a plant we found in Eastern NC that we thought was a tree and brough it to Georgia this spring. It is now about four feet tall.

Marestail, Horseweed and other names but, Keeper ain’t one of em. We could just call it a weed. The best descriptive link I found was here: http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/weeds/plants/horseweed.htm
September 5th, 2012 at 8:06 pmThe description most links give regarding the leaf margin is that it is more often toothed than entire or smooth. In the rosette stage of the plant that is true. In this stage it is not. The upper leaves are more often entire with lower leaves only slightly toothed. One thing that would help confirm the ID is the hairy stem and leaves. On this size plant you would have to look closely and back lighting may be helpful.
