Monarchs use milkweeds… Black swallowtails use parsley, dill, fenel, carrots… And your black swallowtail will soon crawl off and form a chrysalis. Is there only one? Usually… There’s several. Butterflies have specific host plants… http://www.stonethegardener.com/wp/2012/07/gardening-for-butterflies/

A bit blurred and there are many that look similar but I’d say it is the Black Swallowtail caterpillar. I had some on my parsley this early summer also and put some of the parsley and the caterpillars in the multh bin. Swallowtail everywhere . . . nice.

The only reason I plant parsley is for the Monarchs. Hope you didn’t smush it

Sure looks like the monarch butterfly caterpillar to me. They do love parsley. Check out this site. http://www.monarch-butterfly.com/
