Notes:

The two small tubers in the upper left and in hand. I dug these up in the row of my Adirondack Blue potato row. Area was weed free but potatoes were planted where I had grown gladiolus and cypress vine last year. Does not look like even a deformed gladiolus bulb and I ‘m not sure if cypress vines have a tuber. Both the ornamental plants over wint

I remembered that I could submit a picture to Google Lens. Submitted it and immediately got a hit that it is possibly one of the many underground fruiting fungi (like the truffles). I cut into one and it had the pattern like a nutmeg fruit. I would say it also had similar texture and appearance to what a boletus would look like if cut into a vertical cross section. This “fungus” had no taste nor aroma. Will try to submit photo of the sliced-into fungus.
