Found some good pics and descriptions here: http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/woodland/plants/cn_blsnakeroot.htm Black snakeroot is said to be medicinal, but with conflicting information on different sites… I’d be afraid to experiment… For instance, one site talks about people experiencing mouth injuries when chewing it to treat snake bites…. There’s a couple of other varieties, and they all look pretty similar… Sanicula odorata sanicula marilandica

I like it for Sanicula canadensis. Most people mistake it for hellebore when they first see it. http://www.walterreeves.com/name-that-plant/is-this-some-type-of-hellebore/ In my garden, I dig it out for the weed pile.
