Notes:
These three plants were seen on my last hike on the Gold Branch Trail in Marietta, Ga. All are small plants growing very close to the forest floor.

well… Many websites use the pipsissewa nomenclature for both… a case in point: http://forestry.tennessee.edu/plantspq.htm But I take your point… I got lazy, falling back on the common name of the plant rather than posting the botanical name.

No. 2 looks a little more like chimaphila maculata (spotted wintergreen or striped wintergreen) than chimaphila umbellata (Pipsissewa).
