Notes:

This has tiny 1/4″ inch flowers, mostly opposite smooth regular leaves, rounded. A few clusters of 3 or 4 leaves. Fragrant, heady scent. Can anyone lead me to the family at least? It’s been around for years and I cannot recall if it puts off berries. It does not seem to spread or colonize.

Following. I am looking for identification also. Mine is more of a pruned tree. Mine doesn’t have a strong scent, but I’ve been told it could be honeysuckle.

Maybe a privet species (Ligustrum.) Check out two of the species in the genus and see if you have match. The first include link is for the border privet (L. obtusifolium). Best wishes! http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/trees/plants/border_privet.html
