Notes:
The plant has a trunk which is similar to bamboo with sections. Leaves are huge. Plant has grown rapidly. No flowers at this point.

Agree with Sharon. This is Fatsia. It is evergreen, and will have a flower cluster and fruit late in the year IIRC. We have them at our office and I would like to try growing at home if I can find a good shady spot where the weeds will not overtake it

Looks like Fatsia japonica, commonly sold nursery plant in the South. It’s grown as either a house plant or outside in shade, although I’m not sure how hardy it is, probably only to zone 7 or 8. Grows about 3-5 feet tall like a shrub. Really great plant, nothing bothers it, stays healthy looking. Another variety with smaller leaves grows like a vine.
