I wish I could see the rest of the plant to be certain. For now, I’m guessing this might be a species of Elephantopus genus. According to sources Carolina elephantsfoot (E. carolinianus), tall elephantsfoot (E. elatus), smooth elephantsfoot (E. nudatus), and devil’s grandmother (E. tomentosus) are present in GA. Check out the included link for one of the species the smooth elephantfoot. Best wishes! http://vaplantatlas.org/index.php?do=plant&plant=2056
