Hummm. I don’t have an answer but I am not totally convinced that they are pawpaws. “Pods that show up in summer” (June 19)? To me they do look like flattened pods with a seam down one side. M.Frazier, is the cross section of these fruits round or flattened? Also leaves of pawpaw generally do not grow upwards from the branches but droop downward and are thin, flimsy or wimpy. Here in Ohio pawpaws are this size just now (August 23). Can you Georgians really be two months ahead of us?

It’s an edible fruit when it ripens to yellow – but unlikely you will beat the wildlife to harvesting it.
