We have enjoyed multiple clump plantings of this plant under our tree in Wilmington NC. I trimmed the plants back to about 3 inches before the cold in March for the first time ever. Will it come back? Don’t see any shoots. Don’t know the name! Saw the same plant in March of this year in Charleston. Took a picture of it to try to find identity. The second photo shows same plant in plenty on the lower right.

Maybe cast iron plants (Aspidistra elatior) (?). Check it out and see if you have a match. According to sources cast iron plant is hardy in zones 7-11. The included link with further information. Best wishes! https://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/606/
