Taken in June of 2012 in the Tamarin Valley in Mauritius. Very humid environment and getting intense sunlight for a relatively short amount of time due to the steep valley sides.

You’re welcome Philip! Appreciate the confirmed ID. Your beautiful photograph was a great help. The valley sounds like heaven with it’s abundance, exotic flora for folks who love to garden, me included! Laura

You got it in one! Many thanks. An invasive species and very problematic. I don’t recall seeing any flowering plants but the leaves intrigued me, hence the photo. Pretty sure I could spend a lifetime in that valley and not record all the plants that are there. Thanks again.

Without its flowers to help with the ID, I could only guess for now. This might be some a species in the Clidemia genus, possible C. hirta (soapbush/ Koster’s curse) perhaps? Check it out and see if you have a match. Click on the included image below to enlarge. Best wishes! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clidemia_hirta
