Notes:
I have this perennial weed in my Zoysia grass. It has the little nodules on the roots. I do not let it go to seed, so it is spreading by the roots. I have not seen it in other yards – central AL, and it is not on any of the typical weed ID websites. What was a single weed in the grass several years ago, is now covering a large area. The flower in the picture is a day old and has closed. It normally is about the size and shape of a dandelion. Thanks for your help!

You’re welcome! I had the “tuber” term from the US wildflower page. I didn’t know what it was called before. It took me a while to remember which is which for these plants terms: “bulb, rhizome, tuber, & corm”. Best wishes Kay! Laura

Thank you! I believe this is correct. I was calling nodule incorrectly the little tuber/potato. The pre-bloom looks exactly like this. My roots look a little more delicate than the us wildflower pic, but I still believe this is it. I have hand pulled and pulled, but the “potato” cannot come through the zoysia roots and is left behind, making more next year. Sorry for the delayed response. I thought my upload failed and just resubmitted. I REALLY appreciate your post! I have done extensive search on this.

The opened flower would help narrowing down its ID. I can’t see the “little nodule” clearly, it could be a tuber? Check out Potato Dandelion (Krigia dandelion) and see if you have a match. There are several methods with mowing and chemical treatments to control other Krigia species i.e. Krigia virginia (dwarf Dandelion), but I’m not able to find one for Potato Dandelion.
