Found this on the patio and wonder what it is. It does not look too friendly.

    I think maybe a female dobsonfly. Never have seen one quite this ferociou looking.

    If memory serves me, that’s an adult ant lion. As larvae, they live in sandy soil and are able to create a small cone-shaped depression. Ants come along, go into the bottom of this cone and low and behold the larva is sitting there and reaches out with powerful jaws and devours the ant.
