Notes:
We bought a new (to us) home at the first of the year in Rockmart (Polk County) Georgia. This particular shrub had been pruned down to the wood. I thought that I would be able to tell what it is when it started leafing out, but I’m stumped!

Maybe a type of hazelnut (Corylus)? According to sources Amrican hazelnut & beak hazel grow in GA. I don’t know which species this is. Link below is for American hazelnut (Corylus americana). Check it out and see if you have a match. Best wishes! http://www.carolinanature.com/trees/coam3.html
