Notes:
We live in Georgia about an hour northeast of Atlanta. This tree died and we want to use the wood to make some furniture. Can you tell me what kind if tree this is??

Hard to tell much from the bark considering it is a dead tree. Scaling bark could suggest a sycamore, but the scaling here may be only because most of the natural bark has fallen off. The partial leaf at the bottom of the second picture could be either of Laura’s suggestions, or Sycamore – but if this is a long dead tree, I wonder if the leaf could even be from it, versus one knocked off a nearby tree.

Could you give us a close-up of its leaves? In the second photo, there are few leaves look either some kind of maple genus (Acer) or Tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera)? But with out more details to help narrow down its ID, I’m only speculating. Best wishes!
