3 of these have come up in my flower bed, right in front of an existing peony. I assumed they were baby peony plants, but while the leaves are similar, they have not changed to the characteristic lobed shape of my peony. What on earth are they? Fingers crossed they are baby peonies!

    Maybe a type of sumac (Rhus), perhaps wing sumac (Rhus copallinum)? Check it out and see if you have a match. Best wishes!
