I have never seen any thing like this. I assume this is some kind of fungus but I’m not sure. Before it blooms it is like a white ball the size of a golf ball. the bloom looks like squid tenticles that is red in color.

My guess is the lattice stinkhorn – not fully developed yet. Do an image search and see what you think. I see them often in areas that frequently receive commercial applications of pine straw or wood chips. In fact, I recently saw one in an “island” in the parking lot of my local Sam’s Club!
