Notes:

These plants appeared in my garden last spring and I was not sure what they were, so I let them grow. They are now almost 5 feet tall but have not bloomed. Are they just weeds?

    Looks like solidago. Can’t really tell which variety from your pictures… I have a variety that smells like licorice… tastes like it too… Goldenrod is generally supposed to be safe to make tea from… I’m not sure that I want to make tea except from the licorice type… Have patience, your plant will bloom… and attract butterflies… Incidentally, they do NOT cause hay fever… that is caused by ragweed.
