Notes:
My roommate moved out and I inherited this plant from him. I have no idea what it is or how to take proper care of it. As you can see from the picture, it is leaning up against the wall. It has a tendency to droop over and flop on the floor without support. Is it supposed to do that? What would happen if I just let it do its thing? You’d think a plant that size would be able to handle itself. Will it be happier on the floor? Should I tie it to a stick or something? I have no idea what I’m doing.

I agree, it is Dieffenbachia some times called dumb cane because it is slightly toxic and numbs vocal cords if ingested. Adventurous cat I once had would not leave my pant alone so I got rid of it per vetrinarian advice. Wish I had gotten rid of the cat instead but that is another story. Looks like your plant needs a little more sunlight and regular feeding with a water soluble fertilze for houseplants. Water only once a week, one cup of water, remove any water that collects in the tray. They are beautiful plants, good luck with yours.
