My friend had given this plant to me in 2010. She does not know the name of it nor does she remember where she had gotten it. The leaves come in late summer-stay through the winter, than die back in spring. In late spring, the stocks which hold the blossoms appears. This picture is of the bud. Similar to the Lily of the Nile, but is more stocky & fuller. Any suggestions anyone??

That looks like a close-up of the flowerhead of a Scilla, most likely Scilla peruviana ( http://www.botanicalstockphotos.com/img14067.htm ).

walter – could it be some form of toadlily? they don’t mention shade or sun and no leaves can be seen. I know that the toad blooms in the fall.
