This is in someone’s yard in a gardening group I’m in. We can’t seem to figure out what it is. Any ideas?

I think you are probably right about this maybe in the cone flower group (Rudbeckia). But without seeing the plant in person, I’m only guessing and to my eyes this could also be the Brown-eye Susan/Three-lobed Rubeckia (Rudbeckia triloba) (?).
