Notes:
I live in Connecticut and I moved into a new house in November so this is my first spring in this house. The spring flowers have just started to come up and I don’t know what this one is. Is it s flowering plant or a weed? I have a couple of these plants coming up all through the bed (its about 25 feet long with 4 or 5 of these plants coming up).

They grow like weeds out in the Pacific northwest and I’ve never been able to figure out why they won’t grow for me other than the heat. However, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s not my very acidic soil.

It’s so funny you mentioned you have Lupines. I’ve been told by a couple of nursery folks that Lupines don’t grow here in our warm climate (zone 7). However, I’m determined to prove them wrong, I think site placement plays a huge factor. Anyway, I bought 3 red ones from Bluestone Perennials and I just received them a couple days ago. I put them in the ground as soon as I got home from work. They are so healthy. I also bought a few seed packets put those in the ground. The package says up to 21 days for germination, 180 days to flower. Unfortunately, I may not see flowers until November! Can’t wait!

They’re fantastic and I’m envious because I’ve always wanted to grow these but can’t. I CAN grow a Carolina lupine and I’ve got a seedling started but they’re not nearly as showy as yours. Good luck!

Thanks so much both of you! I didn’t know what Lupines were so I looked them up. They’re beautiful! I can wait to see what color(s) I’ve got. 🙂
