Notes:
A guy who used to live at my block of units (in Brisbane, Australia) grew herbs etc. The gardener whipper_snipped them all down, but this is one that I think survived. I cared for it and have eaten some leaves, no bad effect. But I thought I’d better make sure what it is. The photo is the best I can do at the moment, but it should be obvious to an expert. (?) It should be a herb, lettuce, or something else.

Yes, it is a lettuce plant that has gone to seed. No harm from eating the leaves but they may be bitter.
