Notes:
This Japanese Maple tree was planted in mid-March in an open front yard receiving full sun all day. The discolorations started appearing about two weeks ago. It receives about one-half inch of water every 5 days and has had an application of 13-13-13. What is causing this and what should I do about it?

Could be too much sun
can you make a sun screen for it?

I like to add that if this isn’t Japanese beetles damage, you can try Diagnostic Service under The Tree Disorder Troubleshooting tab. You may need to send samples to a lab for analysis. The service is $15. No fee for insects identification. Recommend contacting your local Agricultural Extension from the included link below.

I can’t tell what wrong with your tree. I’m wondering with these lacy leaves appearance might be from Japanese beetles? Check out these included links for more information of this garden pest.
The current location of your Japanese maple is not ideal, it needs protection from the hot afternoon sun. Hope this included link below with extra tips on how to plant, fertilizer, water, etc…for Japanese maple to help you further. Copy and paste to view the site. Best wishes!
