Back to Name that Plant
blooms Apr-May about 20 ft up from stream edge
A little more detail on the leaves (and the measurements) was what I was interested in. But I see Stone has already nailed it for you. 🙂

Verbena rigida http://www.namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=1598 Stiff verbena makes a dynamite lawn flower, but it grows too well for the flower bed… Unless you’re looking for a xeriscape plant that can completely fill a bed.

The picture was taken two years ago, of a pinched-off stem I brought back from a jog and set in water. It is pretty close up – the container is the cap of a mouthwash bottle (only about 1″ high). Don’t know if the colony is still in blossom this year – it was a week or two ago. Plant grows to about 8-12″. All leaves narrowly lanceolate, with jagged edges.

That’s lovely. I don’t suppose you could get in a little closer?
