I am a biology student and I am doing a study on my friends land on Saint Simons Island. My focus is the gopher tortoise but I come across all kinds of neat things. This is one of many. Thanks

    It’s an Arisaema, most likely Arisaema triphyllum. You can see some of the fancier species at my website (, but for images of A triphyllum see or The color of the spathe can vary a lot, from pure green to pure maroon, with various patterns of striping.
